Fashion Designer Nicole Richie Says This Jewelry Will Never Go Out of Style
Fashion designer Nicole Richie gave her take on a timeless jewelry piece during a recent interview with Who What Wear.
Richie’s label, House of Harlow 1960, was among the 13 brands handpicked to be featured at the Revolve Gallery as part of New York Fashion Week. The interactive multi-brand presentation and pop-up shop was filled with lots of new clothes and attracted an array of celebrity guests. The multi-day gallery was also free and open to the public until Sept. 11.
“I talked to Revolve about what they were doing and I thought it was such an amazing idea,” Richie told Who What Wear. “This is not only a presentation, but you really get to have an experience when you walk in, which I think is what people want to do right now.”
Richie then talked about jewelry and what she thinks will stick around for the long haul.
“I don’t think hoops will ever go out of style,” Richie replied when asked what jewelry trend will always be on point. “I think if you have that perfect weight, hoops can do so many things. I think they’re a perfect way to elevate your look. They’re great with a suit. If you’re staying home and need just a little something, it adds to the face frame. I don’t see them going out of style. You’ve seen them in the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s—all the time.”
After originally launching in 2008 as a jewelry business, Richie partnered with House of Harlow to expand it into a ready-to-wear fashion line 18 months later, according to NYLON magazine. This is the first year that House of Harlow was showcased at NYFW.
“The collection as a whole is really inspired by ‘70s Hollywood glamour,” explained Richie. “I wanted to combine that with my appreciation for nature, which is something that also has just been such a big inspiration to me, especially over the past year and a half in this pandemic. We have to value our connection with nature.”
Hoop earrings were also a big jewelry trend in the 1970s. Jewelry expert Thea Miller told The Zoe Report last year, “In terms of hoops, not only are they a symbol of the ’70s, women love them because there is a hoop to match every woman’s style, so women don’t have to choose just one way to be defined.”
W Magazine even said, “When it comes to celebrity fashion, hoop earrings are the ultimate far-reaching accessory.”
Recently we’ve been seeing hoop earrings all over the place, especially among celebrities. Actress Meghan Fox wore them on Sunday to finish off her look for the afterparty of the Video Music Awards, where she was a presenter, Caroline Herrera put her runway models in beaded hoop earrings during New York Fashion Week, and actress Zendaya accessorized her maroon Maison Alaïa two-piece gown with hoop earrings for the photo-call and premiere in Paris of her upcoming film “Dune.”
Over Labor Day weekend, singer Lizzo shared two posts to Instagram in which she posed in a sheer, shiny mini dress and x-large hoop earrings, and Jessica Chastain wore diamond hoop earrings at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.
Here’s a look at some of our favorite hoop earrings:
